CHESTERTON | Liberty Township resident John W. Johnston, a retired Marine Corps major, has filed to run on the Republican ticket for the Indiana House of Representatives in the 10th District.
The district covers most of Chesterton, Ogden Dunes, Porter, Portage, Burns Harbor, Dune Acres and South Haven.
Johnston is a military veteran, retiring after 26 years in the Marine Corps, followed by 17 years as the Senior Marine instructor at Portage High School.
Veterans, educators, skilled union tradesmen and district needs will always be a priority to Johnston, according to a press release issued by his campaign. An emphasis on serving all District 10 residents will be a paramount objective.
Johnston said district cities and towns need additional resources from the state to maintain roads, pay workers and support job growth.
Although increased employment and the economy are his number one goals, Johnston believes that addressing educational needs is a top priority as well, including reducing the plethora of mandated educational initiatives placed on Indiana school administrators, teachers and students.
One of his focuses will also be to make sure skilled tradesman’s interests are protected in Indianapolis, according to the release.
