The Times to check candidate claims

In a special initiative during the primary election season, The Times will investigate claims made by candidates for public office.

Those claims could be made in statements to the media, public speeches or at meetings or stated in candidates' profiles, campaign literature or campaign ads.

Times staff and readers' requests will initiate investigations.
