William I. Fine

Age: 61

Munster

Republican

Office sought: Indiana House District 12

Political experience: I was the Republican candidate for judge of the Lake Circuit Court in 2010.

What prompted your decision to run for this office?:

I see a unique opportunity to change Lake County and choose a candidate who reflects the concerns of everyone in the district. The voters want qualified people with real world experience in public office to replace the party regulars.

Top three goals:

  • Make certain the Little Calumet River Basin Development Commission is regularly and sufficiently funded, that the funds are spent wisely, and that the system is properly maintained without political interference.
  • Adopt "win-win" job and business development incentives such as SB 321 which will encourage capital investment in transportation assets. This will develop our existing air, rail, freight, manufacturing and warehouse resources and create good jobs.
  • Expand on our nationally recognized success in education and pursue common sense government reforms. For example, we should not be running two parallel welfare systems, and we must recognize that "temporary" poor relief should be a state tax obligation.

Why should voters choose you?: A Munster resident since 1958 and a Highland businessman since 1988, I have a comprehensive understanding of the community's needs. Spending more than 35 years as a civil attorney, I've acquired the proper skill set to do this job well.

What would you do on your first day in office?: Why wait? The day after the election I would start to build a network with the governor-elect and new legislators. This will maximize my ability to promote legislation of benefit to the citizens of the 12th District and the entire state on Day 1.

What else would you like to tell us?: I spent my entire adult life in the private sector as a problem-solver, a communicator and a legal analyst. I firmly believe it makes sense to elect an established, professional advocate to represent us in Indianapolis. See more at www.finein12.com
