INDIANAPOLIS | State Sen. Ed Charbonneau, R-Valparaiso, traveled to Canada on Wednesday to participate in the annual Midwest-Canada Legislative Conference.

The chairman of the Indiana Senate's Environmental Affairs Committee is scheduled to discuss environmental issues with Canadian government officials and oil industry leaders during three days in Edmonton, Alberta.

"From protecting water throughout the Great Lakes region to developing wind energy in Northwest Indiana and beyond, Hoosiers are poised to lead the region in connecting environmental issues with economic impact," he said.

Charbonneau is vice chairman of the Council of State Governments Midwest-Canada Relations Committee.
