UNION TOWNSHIP — The Porter County Republican Party is seeking candidates to fill an opening on the Union Township Advisory Board.

The vacancy was created by the resignation of James Foreman, who is moving out of Porter County. His resignation is effective Friday.

A person seeking to fill the vacancy must be a resident of Union Township.

The vacancy will be filled at a caucus at 6 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Union Township trustee's office, 251 N. County Road 475 West, Valparaiso. Only precinct committeemen in office 30 days prior to the caucus are eligible to vote.

The law requires a secret ballot and the winner needs a majority vote. Candidates, in alphabetical order, will be given up to three minutes to speak.

Interested candidates must submit a declaration of candidacy form to the Porter County clerk. The form is available at the Office of Voter Registration in the Porter County Administration Building, 155 Indiana Ave., Room 105, Valparaiso, IN 46383. The phone number is (219) 465-3486. Additionally, a letter of intent must be forwarded to Party Chairman Michael Simpson.

All declaration of candidacy forms must be hand delivered or mailed to the Office of Voter Registration not later than 72 hours prior to the caucus.
