HIGHLAND — Thomas Manyek became the town's newest police officer on Monday after being sworn in by the Town Council.

The police officer's oath was administered by Clerk-Treasurer Michael Griffin.

Manyek, who has two years experience with the East Chicago Police Department, already was in uniform when he took the oath.

"I won't let you guys down," he said to the audience, which also consisted of his fiancee, relatives and friends.

He was approved by the police commission earlier this month effective Nov. 19.
