House approves multiple student count dates
INDIANAPOLIS | School funding would be based on two student count dates instead of one under legislation approved by the Indiana House Thursday.
House Bill 1189 adds a February count date to the September count date and adjusts a school's per student funding based on the updated number.
"If you believe in the concept that money should follow the student, this will more closely track that," said state Rep. Jeff Thompson, R-Lizton.
The legislation advances to the Senate, where state Sen. Ed Charbonneau, R-Valparaiso, and state Sen. Earline Rogers, D-Gary, are co-sponsors.
