CROWN POINT — The Lake County Board of Commissioners held a special meeting to approve repair work to a satellite county courthouse.

County officials said the courthouse building at 3711 E. Main St., East Chicago, was damaged recently when an adjacent building was demolished.

Commissioners Kyle Allen, D-Gary, and Mike Repay, D-Hammond, voted Wednesday to pay Gary Supply $42,300 and Gluth Brothers Roofing $9,848 for work they did at the satellite courthouse. Commissioner Jerry Tippy, R-Schererville, was absent.

Commissioners voted to pay CSK Architects $46,800 for design work they did for the county.

Commissioners also authorized a $3,717 payment to Emcor Hyre Electric Co. for recent repairs they made to lighting in the Lake County Jail.

They are paying Gariup Construction Co. of Gary, $70,000 for roofing and wall replacement at the so-called Grass Shack, a maintenance storage building at the Lake County Government Center in Crown Point.

Commissioners also approved an agreement between the Lake Superior Court and Volunteer Advocate for Seniors and Incapacitated Adults program at Franciscan Health Hammond to represent persons in court who have no family support. The state and the county share the $75,000 cost of the program.
