CROWN POINT | The Lake County elections board tweaked several municipal precinct maps.
Michelle Fajman, elections director, said the changes, which conform to population shifts noted in new census figures, led Crown Point municipal officials to recommend eliminating Precinct 27 and Precinct 28 and creating Precinct 32.
She said Schererville officials similarly recommended combining Precincts 25, 29, 30 and 31 with neighboring precincts.
The board also approved combining Hammond Precinct 5-16's 675 voters into Hammond Precinct 5-15, eliminating Hobart Precinct 28 and creating a new Hobart Precinct 26.
The newly drawn precincts delineate the boundaries of municipal officials' districts.
She said if state elections officials give final approval to the map, there will be a total of 523 voting precincts in the county.
