Lawmakers say no gov't contracts for companies selling to Iran
INDIANAPOLIS | Businesses or banks that support Iran's energy industry would be banned from contracting with Indiana governments under legislation approved 95-0 by the Republican-controlled House Tuesday.
Senate Bill 231, co-sponsored by state Rep. Mara Candelaria Reardon, D-Munster, makes companies doing business in Iran ineligible for state or local government contracts.
"It's very important to send the message loud and clear that we will not do business with companies that do business with Iran," Candelaria Reardon said.
The Republican-controlled Senate previously approved the measure, 49-1. It now goes to Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels.
