Lieutenant governor seeks Hoosier Rising Star nominations
INDIANAPOLIS | Elementary and high school students who volunteer or otherwise contribute to their communities are eligible for the 2012 Hoosier Rising Star Award.
Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman is seeking nominations for her annual award honoring students who have created or led a project focused on their community's economic development, environment, tourism, education or on social issues such as child abuse, crime, hunger or poverty.
"This award celebrates Indiana's outstanding young Hoosiers, many of whom roll up their sleeves and tackle projects that most adults would find intimidating," Skillman said. "That kind of leadership ought to be rewarded."
Hanover Central High School student Kaylin Fanta, of St. John, was named a Hoosier Rising Star last year for her project distributing backpacks filled with school supplies to children from low-income families.
Nomination forms are available on the lieutenant governor's website: www.lg.in.gov. Nominations are due by March 2.
