INDIANAPOLIS | Gov. Mike Pence on Wednesday appointed Gordon Hendry, an Indianapolis Democrat, to the State Board of Education.

Hendry is vice president of a realty company that advises schools and other public institutions on real estate decisions. He previously led a central Indiana economic development group.

He replaces David Shane, an Indianapolis Republican, who resigned this month to head one of Pence's regional works councils.
