INDIANAPOLIS | Gov. Mike Pence is thanking the Michigan State Police troopers who assisted Indiana State Police following a 46-vehicle pileup last Thursday on Interstate 94 near Michigan City.

In a letter sent Wednesday to Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, Pence commended the Michigan troopers for volunteering their time and expertise at the crash site.

"They stood shoulder-to-shoulder with our troopers to check on the injured, gather personal information and help those involved get to safety," Pence said. "Thanks to their dedicated service, people were cared for more quickly, and we were able to clear the scene faster."

Three people were killed and nearly two dozen injured when lake-effect snow created white-out conditions, blinding drivers on the six-lane highway.
