Senate votes 48-0 to approve tougher human trafficking law
INDIANAPOLIS | The Indiana Senate on Tuesday approved a plan to toughen the state's human trafficking laws ahead of next month's Super Bowl in Indianapolis.
Senate Bill 4 clarifies state law to ban the use of force or fraud to compel participation in sexual conduct and prohibits a parent or guardian from selling or transferring custody of their child for prostitution.
The Republican-controlled Senate voted 48-0 to send the legislation to the Republican-controlled House.
Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels said in his State of the State address Tuesday night he is eager to sign the measure into law.
