WASHINGTON D.C. | Just days after being sworn in as Indiana's governor, Mike Pence joined other state officials Sunday to honor President Barack Obama’s inauguration.
Pence addressed a crowd of more than 100 at the Indiana Inaugural Ball on Sunday night at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington D.C.
“I believe this is Indiana’s moment,” he said. “And it’s a moment where if we will continue to be bold and innovative, then Indiana is poised to go from good to great. We are poised for greatness, this is our time to shine.”
The Indiana Society of Washington D.C. put together the event to honor the president, but also to honor the new governor, the lieutenant governor and congressional delegates from across the state.
U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky and Sen. Joe Donnelly also were among those chatting through a cocktail hour before dinner.
Donnelly took time to talk with guests and snap some photos.
He’s looking forward to working with the Obama administration to help Hoosiers as much as possible.
“I’m looking forward to the chance to solve these problems we are facing,” he said. “And not focusing on a party, but by focusing on the fact that we need to work together.”
Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson shared the excitement of problem solving and said Obama should be able to focus on getting more things done without worrying about re-election this time around.
She also was proud to see several local people in the line-up for inaugural events throughout the weekend.
“I’m ecstatic,” she said. “It’s a good profile for us and it’s good for Northwest Indiana. We’ve got a lot of talent in Northwest Indiana, a lot of smart, talented people, and everyone should see that.”
