INDIANAPOLIS | Two Northwest Indiana lawmakers have been chosen to serve on an international committee that promotes cooperation between Midwestern states and central Canadian provinces.
State Rep. Ed Soliday, R-Valparaiso, and state Rep. Earl Harris, D-East Chicago, will represent the Indiana House on the Midwest-Canada Relations Committee, which includes lawmakers from 11 U.S. states and the provinces of Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
"I look forward to working with my counterparts from other states and Canadian provinces to learn best practices and to discuss the issues that affect our communities," Harris said. "This is a great opportunity to share ideas with our neighbors."
In recent years, the committee's work has focused on energy, trade, law enforcement, border security and Great Lakes issues.
