TUTU TO SPEAK | Gary
Human-rights activist Naomi Tutu, daughter of famed anti-apartheid activist Desmond Tutu, will speak at 6 p.m. Feb. 4 in the Savannah Auditorium at Indiana University Northwest, 340 Broadway, to kick off Black History Month observances. Naomi Tutu has served as a development consultant in West Africa and as a coordinator for programs on race and gender and gender-based violence in education at the African Gender Institute at the University of Cape Town. She has also taught at the universities of Hartford and Connecticut and at Brevard College. She began her public speaking career as a college student at Berea College in Kentucky in the 1970s, when she was invited to speak about her experiences growing up in apartheid South Africa. She blends her passion for human dignity with humor and personal stories. Doors to Savannah open at 5:15 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public.
