The Illiana Garden Railroad Society opens its 2010 G-scale model railroad season on April 3 at the Samuelson Greenhouse property, 295 N. Ind. 2 in Valparaiso. Model trains will run all day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to a news release from the organization. Admission is free. The trains run on 600 feet of track that winds across bridges and trestles, past a waterfall and around a pond in a garden setting. There are also models of a farm, a gold mine and an industrial switchyard. Youngsters can watch "Thomas the Train" run on his own track.The model railroad is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays from May through September.
