RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS | Lansing
All returning Thornton Fractional South High School students must prove residency for the 2010/11 school year. Parents can bring the required documentation to the guidance office at the school, 18500 Burnham Ave., between 9 and 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 1 to July 1. New students must register and prove residency by appointment only. Call (708) 585-2018 to make an appointment. Some examples of documentation to be provided include either a real estate tax bill or signed renter's lease and two of the following: a driver's license or state ID, voter's registration card, gas or electric bill or village water bill.

FARM FRESH MARKET | University Park
Fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables are coming to Governors State University, 1 University Parkway. The university's first outdoor farmers market opens for business June 3 on the south end of parking lot D.
Hours are 1 to 6 p.m., rain or shine, on Thursdays through September. Three vendors selling produce, organic health and beauty products and honey have already signed up and other vendors are likely to come on board so that market offerings expand throughout the summer. Eventually vendors selling flowers and plants, fresh-baked goods and other items are expected to be included.

CIVIL ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIPS | Chicago Southland, Northwest Indiana
The Verlon W. Braselton Memorial Foundation is offering grants and scholarships to full-time undergraduate students pursuing college, university or technical educations primarily in the field of civil engineering. Applicants should reside in the Chicago southland/Northwest Indiana area and have completed a minimum of 25 credit hours. CANCER SURVIVORS DAY | Munster, E.C., Hobart
Registration is due June 4 for the National Cancer Survivors Day, which is held annually in hundreds of communities across our country on the first Sunday in June to demonstrate that life after a cancer diagnosis can be a reality. Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart each will host a celebration June 6 to honor cancer survivors from Northwest Indiana communities. Sponsored by the Cancer Resource Centre, a support program of the Community Cancer Research Foundation, a Hawaiian Luau will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Edward P. Robinson Community Veteran’s Memorial Park in Munster, 9710 Calumet Ave., with musical entertainment by Jaclyn Gessert and the Just for Fun Ukelele Strummers. There also will be healing touch, Reiki, chair massage and yoga demonstrations. Hawaiian attire is optional for this casual, relaxing luau-themed event. A beach-themed Celebration of Life is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. in the professional office building conference room of St. Catherine Hospital, 4321 Fir St. in East Chicago. Beachwear is optional. An interactive demonstration of laughter yoga will be conducted by certified instructor Tanaz Bamboat. Musical entertainment, refreshments and giveaways also highlight the afternoon. St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart will host a Cancer Survivors Day Celebration from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Waterfall Café Courtyard, 1500 S. Lake Park Ave. (accessible through the West entrance). Activities will include an old-fashioned ice cream social, hors d’oeuvres, music, giveaways, and door prizes. All programs are free and open to the public.

SPECIAL NEEDS FISHING | Chicago
Illinois Department of Natural Resources will host the Chicagoland Fishing Rodeo for people with special needs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 5 at the William Powers Fish & Wildlife Area (Wolf Lake), 1260 S. Ave. O. A section of the lake will be stocked with fish and no fishing license is required. Instructors will assist and all fishing equipment and bait will be provided. There is no charge, and lunch will be provided. Interested anglers are encouraged to bring a personal assistant. Register in advance by phone.

ROTARY RUN-AROUND | Munster
Early registration of $15 for the 22nd annual Rotary Run-Around on June 12 ends June 6. Cost is $20 after today. The 5K walk and run begins at 7:45 a.m. and the 10K run starts at 8:30 a.m. Race starts and finishes at the Ridge United Methodist Church next to the Munster High School soccer field, 8808 Columbia Ave. The course is a paved, level route throughout Munster. The race annually hosts 300 competitors with proceeds benefiting the local community as well as international projects. Registration can be completed by filling out the form on the Rotary's Web site, www.munster-rotary.org. This is a Calumet Area Striders Gold Cup Series Race Circuit with computerized scoring. Awards are given for the first place overall winner in each race for men, women and masters division. Medals are given for first, second and third place in each age group for men and women.

LEON'S TRIATHLON | Hammond
After a 15-year hiatus, Leon's Triathlon will return to Northwest Indiana. Leon's was one of the largest triathlons in the early days of Chicago's triathlon scene, bringing professionals from all over the country. Touted today as the world's fastest triathlon and one of the most anticipated races of 2010, it will take place from 8 a.m. to noon June 6 at Wolf Lake, utilizing portions of Cline and Calumet avenues.
