The Crete Public Library's Children's Department, 1177 N. Main St., is emphasizing Dental Health Month through February with a display of books on dental health care and dental careers. The books will help children develop good dental habits at an early age and show how important it is to schedule regular dental visits. The collection includes "Dishing Up Smiles Cookbook" with it's tooth friendly recipes, and "The Dentist and You" which shows what a visit to the dentist is all about. Activity sheets are available to take home and color.

MARKETING SEMINAR | South Holland
The Business & Career Institute of South Suburban College will host a course in their Breakfast with BCI Workshop Series titled "Marketing for the Real World" Feb. 18 at the college's main campus, 15800 S. State St. Check-in will begin at 8:15 a.m. with the workshop to follow from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Almost 90 percent of Web traffic begins with search engines, and 27 percent of searches are for local business. YouTube is now the No. 2 search engine, and Facebook currently has more than 350 million active members. This training takes participants through some of the basic concepts and strategies addressing the paradigm shift that the world is facing in today's business/marketing model. The cost of "Marketing for the Real World" is $15 per person, or $10 per person if three or more individuals from the same company attend. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is required.

HEALTH FAIR | Hazel Crest
Advocate South Suburban Hospital, 17800 S. Kedzie Ave., will host An Affair for the Heart from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 18 in the hospital's east lobby. The free health fair will feature educational booths related to cardiovascular disease. Topics include smoking cessation, heart healthy eating, stroke and diabetes. Free health screenings will be offered.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL LECTURE | Homewood
The South Suburban Archaeological Society will present a slide lecture "Walking in Phrygian Footsteps: Using Green Technology to Excavate a City from the Times of Kind Midas" by Scott Branting, director of the Center for Ancient Middle Eastern Landscapes, and research assistant professor of The Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago. The Social Network hosts its first Lock & Key party to benefit the Haiti Health Foundation from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at Old Town Social, 455 W. North Ave. Members and nonmembers are invited to mix and mingle in the name of charity. To encourage people to connect socially, there will be a special lock and key given to partygoers to open their lock and vice versa. A private cocktail reception is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. with a $20 donation to benefit the Haiti Health Foundation.

EDUCATION FOR INFANTS | University Park
The Family Development Center and the College of Education at Governors State University are sponsoring an enriching and educational playgroup experience for infants, ages 6 months to 2 years old, and their parents.
The program includes activities for infants designed to enhance physical and mental development using fun and inventive materials. Students in the early childhood degree program at GSU lead the sessions under the supervision of College of Education professors and certified Family Development Center staff. The eight-session program is from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 18 through April 8. The fee is $10. The Family Development Center is located on the campus of Governors State University, 1 University Parkway.

Current students, alumni, and community members interested in finding employment in schools are invited to attend. QUIT SMOKING CLASS | Crete
The Will County Health Department is offering the American Lung Association's Freedom from Smoking program at the Crete Public Library starting on Feb. 22. The cost is $20 per person, which covers program materials, including either the nicotine patch or the lozenge. Sessions meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Monday for seven weeks, with an additional meeting on March 17 for a follow-up after "quit day."

Rock for Relief, a concert and craft sale to aid the people of Haiti, will begin at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 at J.J. Kelley's, 2455 Bernice Road. Tickets are $10 at the door. Performances by Lynxwail, Holas, Nomad Planets, Joshua McCormack & The Sin Divine, Midstates & The Choir of Ghosts and Steve Munoz are planned. There will also be a wide variety of hand-crafted items from local artists and crafters for sale. All proceeds from the event will be matched by The University of Chicago Medical Center and donated to the relief efforts in Haiti.
