DANCE SCHOLARSHIP | Chicago

The 30th annual Carey Rose Winski Dance Scholarship Competition will take place at 10 a.m. Oct. 3 in the Lou Conte Dance Studio - Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, 1147 W. Jackson Blvd. The competition is open to any dancer, male or female, in the U.S. between the ages of 13 and 18. Scholarships totaling $1,500 are given to the winners. The winners choose the schools for their further training. Competitors participate in a one-hour classical warm-up class and perform two- to three-minute solos, one in classical ballet (en pointe for girls) and one in any eclectic style - jazz, modern, character, etc. No tap. Applications can be obtained by writing to the Carey Rose Winski Memorial Foundation Inc., 69 Woodley Road, Winnetka, IL 60093. Winski, who lived and received dance training in Michigan City, died at age 17 in 1980.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST | Chicago

Knights of Columbus General Pulaski Council 3323 will hold a pancake breakfast with the Easter bunny from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. March 21 at St. Columba Social Center, 13323 S. Greenbay Ave. in Chicago's Hegewisch neighborhood. All children will receive a free gift and picture with the bunny himself. Breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, French toast, sausage, eggs to order and coffee, milk and juice. It costs $7 for adults and $3 for children 10 and younger.

JAZZ CONCERT | Chicago Ridge

CHILDREN'S THEATER | Chicago Heights

The Drama Group Children's Theatre, 330 W. 202nd St., presents "The Jungle Book," a one-hour show from March 24 through March 28. Program is at 9:30 a.m. and noon on March 24, March 25 and March 26. EASTER HOLIDAY CRAFTS | Calumet City

Easter holiday crafts will be offered for 6- to 12-year-olds from the Calumet Memorial Park District from 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 24. The fee is $5 for residents and $10 for nonresidents and includes all materials. Participant availability is limited and registration is required and is being taken at the Sandridge Center, 600 Oglesby Ave.

UKULELE MUSIC | Lansing

CRIMINAL JUSTICE CAREER FAIR | University Park

The Office of Career Services at Governors State University is sponsoring a career fair featuring employers in the field of criminal justice. Current students, alumni, and community members interested in finding employment in law enforcement, the criminal justice system, and related fields are encouraged to attend. Potential employers will be on hand from both public and private sectors. The Criminal Justice Career Fair is from 3 to 6:30 p.m. March 25 in the Hall of Governors at Governors State University, 1 University Parkway. While the Criminal Justice Career Fair is free and open to the public, employers who wish to participate must register and pay a registration fee.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETS | Chicago

The Southeast Chicago Historical Society will conduct its annual membership meeting at 11 a.m. March 28 at the Calumet Park Field House at 9801 Avenue G. All members are urged to attend and vote on the new slate of officers at this meeting. Nominations may be made from the floor. The officers presented by the nominating committee will be announced. Refreshments will be served.

PAGEANT | Matteson

The Jassac Charitable Foundation Inc, and the Joliet Area/South Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will present 30 girls ranging in ages from 5 to 13 in the first Little Miss D.S.T. Pageant. The pageant takes place at 4 p.m. March 27 at Victory Apostolic Church, 2801 Matteson Ave. The event is a fundraiser with the proceeds supporting various recipients and scholarships for the Joliet area and south suburban communities. TEA PARTY | Merrillville

Alzheimer's & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, affiliated with Alzheimer's Foundation of America will hold an American Girl Tea Party fundraiser from 2 to 4 p.m. March 27, hosted by Spring Mill Health Campus,101 W. 87th Ave. Cost is $20, which includes lunch, tea and an entry ticket to win Lanie Holland, the 2010 American Girl Doll of the Year. The Calumet Memorial Park District's annual Easter egg hunts take place at noon March 27. The hunts are free for children ages 12 and younger.  Hunts will be held at four sites: Burnham Park, Greenbay Avenue and 138th Street; Memorial Park, Wentworth Avenue and Memorial Drive; Sandridge Center, Oglesby Avenue and Memorial Drive and Veterans Park, Burnham Avenue and 165th Street.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS | Crete

Battle of the Books will take place in the Crete Public Library's Children's Department, 1177 N. Main St., from 6 to 9 p.m. on March 29 and March 30. The library hosts this annual event where six area schools and one homeschool group compete in answering questions about the books they have read. They are judged on their accuracy and knowledge of the books. Sponsoring this annual event is Friends of the Crete Library, First United Bank, Harris Bank and Northwoods restaurant.
