CALUMET CITY | The city has agreed to pay a Downers Grove company nearly $6,900 to print up the more than 25,000 vehicle stickers that will be sold to local motorists who want to legally park their car within the south suburb.
The City Council voted 7-0 Thursday to approve the payment of several bills, including a $6,893.88 payment to Scot Decal Co.
The bulk of that payment ($4,341.46) will go to printing 25,501 stickers.
The stickers will be that will be purple and lavender on a white background, bearing the phrase "Participate in the 2010 Census" in gray letters.
Addition of the plug for the Census Bureau's population count will cost another $663.99.
Slightly different stickers will be printed for vehicles belonging to the mayor, the city clerk, deputy clerk, city treasurer, deputy treasurer and the seven aldermen.
The city clerk's office will sell the stickers every spring, with motorists required to pay a $50 fee for their cars. If they do not buy the sticker by the May 31 deadline, a $100 penalty is added to the cost.
Other things to be paid for in the total bill are decals and plates enclosed in glassine bags, 300 Calumet City motorcycle plates and 50 official city stars.
In other bills, the council approved payment of $11,608.50 to South Holland-based Robinson Engineering to cover the cost of engineering studies done for repairs to the city's pump station.
The city paid nearly $14,500 to Alliance Environmental, which handled the removal of asbestos from six residential properties around the city to allow for the destruction of the structures now on them.
J&J Newell Concrete of Calumet City will receive $135,821.33 for sidewalk and concrete removal and replacement work done during 2009.
