As much as 2 inches of snow could fall on the region during the evening rush, making for potentially hazardous driving conditions.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for Cook, Will, Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties warning of the dangers.

The snow is expected to move into the Chicago metropolitan area around 3 p.m. and move eastward into Northwest Indiana by early evening. The snow is expected to fall at a moderate rate but forecasters said there could be brief periods of heavy snowfall.

The most intense snow is expected to last for two to three hours.
