By now you have likely seen or heard about the latest Internet craze, the “Harlem Shake," which has morning talk show hosts and even the staff of a U.S. senator creating their own “Harlem Shake” videos in which they dance and gyrate awkwardly.

If you find the “Harlem Shake” entertaining you should come out to Thornton Fractional South High School, 18500 Burnham Ave. in Lansing, for a night of family friendly fun at 7 p.m. March 15 featuring the Harlem Wizards. This trick basketball team will face off against the Lansing Legends, a team comprised of T.F. South staff members and staff from several Lansing elementary and middle schools, in this celebrity charity basketball game. Tickets may be purchased at T.F. South or online at www.harlemwizards.com for $7 in advance or $10 at the door. All event proceeds will be donated to the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research.

In other district news, Thornton Fractional North High School, 755 Pulaski Road in Calumet City, is looking for volunteers to participate in the school’s sixth annual career day on April 16. Participants will be asked to speak with groups of T.F. North students for 30-minute sessions throughout the morning about their chosen profession and steps required to pursue various careers. Please contact guidance counselor intern Chris Zumstein at (708) 585-2396 and at czumstein@tfd215.org if you are interested in participating or would like more information.

T.F. South will host several workshops, called Transition Workshop Mondays, for students with special needs and their families to learn about post-secondary options, resources provided by community agencies, information on how to receive accommodation at a college or university, and summer programs for special needs students. The workshops are free and will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. March 25 and April 29 in the T.F. South Library Resource Center. Contact rburke@tfd215.org and kolowe@tfd215.org for more information.
