CALUMET CITY | The Calumet Memorial Park District, which serves Calumet City and Burnham residents, offers basketball leagues for grade-school children as well as a preschool.

There are individual fifth- and sixth- and seventh- and eighth-grade leagues for both boys and girls, starting now and running through mid-March. Practices are on weeknights and games will be held on Saturdays at the Sandridge Community Center, 600 Oglesby Ave. in Calumet City.

The park district also offers its Lil' Geniuses program. This program for 3- to 5-year-olds helps prepare children for the experiences of kindergarten through study of the alphabet, numbers, colors, shapes, printing, motor skills and more, through games, songs and crafts. It takes place from 9 a.m. to noon or noon to 3 p.m. on weekdays. For complete information or to register for either program call (708) 862-6440.
