CALUMET CITY | Two men have been charged in connection with a police chase through the south suburbs that ended in a crash that killed two teenagers.
Markese Hall, 22, of Riverdale, was charged with two counts of reckless homicide. Jajuan Hunt, 18, of Chicago, was charged with one count of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of aggravated assault.
Both are scheduled to appear in Cook County court at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Markham.
A woman called police at 1:16 a.m. Friday and said she was driving on Sibley Boulevard when another vehicle drove alongside her and someone inside pointed a handgun at her, according to Calumet City Police Capt. Dan Zorzi.
She reported the incident to police, who chased the vehicle through Dolton, Riverdale, Calumet Park and Chicago. Zorzi said the victim identified Hall as the driver and Hunt as the person who pointed the gun at her.
Both Hall and Hunt were taken to the hospital after the crash but now are in police custody, Zorzi said.
Two of the three other passengers in the vehicle died after the vehicle hit a median and crashed into a pole at 115th and Halsted streets in Chicago. All three were in the back seat, according to Calumet City police.
Clarence Rounds, 15, of Chicago, died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn as a result of his injuries. Brittany Johnson, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old female who police haven't identified still is in critical condition at Advocate Christ.
The vehicle the five were traveling in was taken in a carjacking Thursday in Chicago, police said. The gun pointed at the woman, which also was stolen, was recovered at the crash site, police said.
Additional charges are possible as prosecutors review the case, Zorzi said.
