CALUMET CITY | The VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Calumet City Post 8141 will host their annual holiday cooking demonstration and sampling buffet from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the VFW, 664 Hirsch Ave.

Chef Kathy Simkus, also an auxiliary member, will prepare and explain the steps in making some delicious recipes. After the demonstration, there is a  sampling buffet and participants can taste all of the dishes.

Tickets are $25 and include a recipe booklet of the demonstrated dishes, door prizes, the sampling buffet, wine, and pop. There is also a basket raffle to help raise money for the group's various programs.

Throughout the year the Ladies Auxiliary sends packages to troops overseas, supports veteran programs and the National Home for Children. In addition, the Auxiliary raises money for cancer aid and research, sponsors patriotic contests in local schools, and hosts the district’s largest Americanism Night by honoring the police, firefighters, citizens, and students in our community.

Join them as Chef Kathy plans a delectable menu that she will show how to make including appetizers, entrees, and desserts. During her demonstration, Kathy shares shortcuts, cooking tips, and shopping advice.

Make your reservation early by contacting Kathy Simkus at (708) 439-9071, Jan Malone at (708) 868-5627, or Marilyn Schultz at (708) 862-8673.
