CALUMET CITY | Parents of Wentworth Intermediate School students can take a more interactive role in their children's education as a result of the new school website, www.wis-sd155.us.

Francisco Sanchez is in his first year as principal at the school that serves students in third through fifth grades.

He began the website to highlight important information for parents and to make them aware of what is taking place there without having to call the school.

He said skills being taught throughout the year can be found on the website.

"I have them already listed by trimester there," Sanchez said.

Listing the skills can enable parents to reinforce those lessons at home, he said.

Parents can also view the daily lunch menu online and Sanchez plans to eventually post what homework has been assigned on the site.

In other district news:

• Calumet City Elementary District 155 Superintendent Troy Paraday told the School Board on Thursday that districtwide enrollment is down about 100 students compared to the same time last year.

"That impact will be significant next year because that's going to affect our general state aid," Paraday said.

District 155 consists of Wilson Elementary School, Wentworth Intermediate School and Wentworth Junior High School.

• The board established a hearing time and date of 6 p.m. Dec. 20 to present the 2012 tax levy.
