CALUMET CITY | Lincoln Elementary School, 410 W. 157th St., hosted a Cinco de Mayo celebration Friday.

Dancers, singers and poetry readings highlighted the event.

Historically, the date marks the Mexican army's victory over French forces on May 5, 1862, at the the Battle of Puebla. The holiday began soon after, evolving into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage.
