Cal City 8th-grader headed to spelling bee
CALUMET CITY | Lincoln Elementary School eighth-grader Senora Lewis will represent the school Tuesday in the South Cook Regional Spelling Bee at Central Middle School in Tinley Park, Lincoln School has announced.
"Hopefully, I can get through the whole thing. I believe that I can win with a lot of practice, determination and focus. I can do it," Lewis said.
For the third straight year, Lincoln School has offered students in fifth through eighth grades the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Students were given a list of 100 words to study from. On Jan. 20, classroom winners competed against one another. Principal Douglas Higgins served as the pronouncer by pronouncing each word correctly and Assistant Principal Anita McLaughlin served as the judge. On Jan. 26, Lewis was declared the winner and will be representing her school at the regional level.
