CALUMET CITY | A 37-year-old Calumet City woman has been charged with concealment of a homicidal death and obstruction of justice in connection with the shooting death of her live-in boyfriend.

Demetrius Marshall, 41, died Wednesday at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey.

Desiree Cook, of the 300 block of Paxton Avenue, called 911 that night and initially told police her boyfriend stumbled into the house with a gunshot wound. She changed her story multiple times, Calumet City Assistant Police Chief Dan Zorzi said.

"They were playing with a relatively new revolver that they had purchased, and, believing it was unloaded, he ended up getting shot in the face," Zorzi said.

The concealment and obstruction charges were filed against Cook because she did not admit to police right away what actually happened, he said.
