CALUMET CITY | An 18-year-old Calumet City man has been charged in connection with the shooting death of a 23-year-old acquaintance, police said.

Noah Wilburn was charged Saturday through Cook County with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Brandon Wilborn.

Wilborn lived in the 900 block of East 163rd Street in Calumet City, Assistant Police Chief Tom DiFiori said.

The shooting was sparked after the two men had gotten into a disagreement, DiFiori said.

The men are not related even though the spelling of their last names is similar, DiFiori said.

He said the shooting was not gang related.

The charges against Wilburn were filed late Saturday after police had questioned him about the shooting, DiFiori said.

The Lake County coroner's office was dispatched at 6:24 p.m. Friday to Franciscan St. Margaret Health hospital's emergency room in Hammond after Wilborn died of multiple gunshot wounds.

According to the Lake County coroner, the death was a result of what police determined was a homicide, which occurred at 6:12 p.m. at 839 163rd St. in Calumet City.

Calumet City police are working with the Lake County coroner's office on the investigation.
