INDIANAPOLIS | A Calumet City man's hunch that something big was about to happen came true when he won $300,000 from the Hoosier Lottery, according to a news release.
Julius Jackson purchased a Hoosier Lottery Quick Draw ticket for the Oct. 16 game at the Speedway at 7405 Calumet Ave. in Hammond, where he regularly buys his lottery tickets. Jackson has faithfully played the same numbers since Quick Draw debuted in 2009, the release states.
"I've been feeling real lucky the last couple weeks," Jackson said. "I've had a sense something was going to happen."
Jackson recalled the moment when he went to the Speedway to show his winning ticket.
"The store knew somebody had won, but they didn't know who," he said. "It was me. When the clerk double-checked my ticket she looked at me smiling and said 'you're the one.'"
He immediately got in his car and made the trip to Indianapolis where he claimed his winnings Friday afternoon.
Jackson said he'd like to use the money to put a down payment on a house and indulge his wife with a nice decorating budget.
The winning Quick Draw numbers for Oct. 16 were 3-6-11-14-21-27-29-33-45-48-49-53-67-68-70-71-74-76-78-79. Jackson matched 10 of the 20 numbers to win the $300,000 top prize.
