CALUMET CITY | A Hammond teen was killed and another person was injured in a shooting Sunday night in Calumet City, police said.
Ashaya Miller, 15, was killed after two bullets struck her back while she was cooking in a house on the 500 block of Ingraham Avenue, said Ed Gilmore, the Calumet City police chief.
Dahnyah Young, 19, who lives at the residence, was struck in the elbow, Gilmore said. Young and Miller were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where Miller died.
Gilmore said Monday he didn't know what Young's condition was.
Police have not identified any suspects. Gilmore said it appears the shots were fired at about 9 p.m. outside of the home and went through a high kitchen window, which could mean the shooter is tall.
Gilmore said about 10 people, including an adult, were inside the home during the time of the shooting. He said it wasn't a party, and it wasn't clear Monday why Miller was at the house.
"Everyone is out chasing down leads," Gilmore said.
Miller's family, reached at their Hammond home Monday evening, declined to comment.
