CALUMET CITY | Free teeth cleanings, discounted immunizations and more will be offered Saturday and Sunday when River Oaks Center hosts a health fair in conjunction with Chiro One Wellness.
More than 15 health-related vendors will be on hand from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Macy’s court to answer questions and offer health tips.
The Heart That Smiles Mobile Dentist will provide free, on-site teeth cleanings to people 19 and younger, and Walgreens Pharmacy will offer discounted flu shots and other immunizations.
Ingalls Health System will provide blood pressure screenings and information on obesity.
Plan Alzheimer's care options
MICHIGAN CITY | Legal and Financial Planning for Alzheimer’s Disease, a free workshop on care options and legal and financial issues related to Alzheimer’s disease, will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 6 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 101 St. John Road.
The session is free, but registration is required through the Alzheimer's Association at (800) 272-3900.
This program will cover important legal and financial information to consider as the disease progresses and plans are made.
Heart Cart screenings set
KNOX | The Heart Cart will offer discounted cardiovascular screenings from 8 to 11 a.m. (CST) Wednesday at Indiana University Health Starke Hospital, 102 E. Culver Road, in the second floor conference room.
The service is available at a lower cost — $50 for tests normally costing in excess of $1,200. Participants may pay by cash, check, money order or credit card. Registration for the discounted service is required in advance. IU Health does not bill insurance for the service. Participants are responsible for payment in full.

The screening tests for abnormal heart rhythm, abdominal aortic aneurysm, blood pressure, fasting cholesterol and glucose levels, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, poor leg circulation, stroke and weight.
Participants may schedule a Vertical Auto-Profile cholesterol screening for an additional $39. Results will be mailed to participants three to four weeks following the screening. Individuals may take the results to their doctor for follow up.
Orthopedic surgery seminar
SOUTH HOLLAND | Dr. Phillip Nigro, an orthopedic surgeon at the Advanced Orthopedic Institute at Ingalls, will host a free seminar for coaches and parents about shoulder and elbow injury prevention.
Nigro, who specializes in arthroscopy, arthroplasty and sports surgery of the upper extremity, will present the information at 6 p.m. Feb. 27 at the South Holland Community Center, 501 E. 170th St.
He will discuss the most up-to-date recommendations for injury prevention, as well as available treatment options for rotator cuff tears, SLAP lesions and Little League elbow. Reservations are required. Call (800) 221-2199 to reserve a seat.
