Breast Cancer Support Group

The Ingalls Breast Cancer Support Group will hold its next meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 8 at the Richard K. Desser, M.D., Comprehensive Breast Center at Ingalls Family Care Center, 6701 W. 159th St. in Tinley Park.

Center Steppers at River Oaks Mall

Join the Ingalls Center Steppers Mall Walkers Club at River Oaks Mall for an educational presentation, The Benefits of Yoga, at 9 a.m., July 15. Come early for free blood pressure screenings between 8 and 10 a.m. Center Steppers meets at River Oaks Mall, 96 River Oaks Center Drive in Calumet City, near the food court.

Driver Safety (AARP Program)

Ingalls Senior Life is hosting an American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Driver Safety two-day class from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8 and 9 in the Ingalls Professional Building, 71 W. 156th St., in Harvey. The class will meet in Lower Level Meeting Rooms 3 and 4. The fee is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers. Checks should be made payable to AARP. Hope and Healing – Grief Support Group

Ingalls Bereavement Services sponsors a free Grief Support Group at 2 p.m. every Monday at Ingalls Memorial Hospital. The group provides a safe place for participants who have experienced the loss of a loved one to grieve with others that have had similar experiences, share feelings and start the healing process. Registration is required. Call Ingalls Ingalls Hospice Bereavement Services at (708) 331-1360. The group meets in the North Building, second floor, at the main hospital campus, 1 Ingalls Drive in Harvey.

Straight Talk – Grief Support for Men

Ingalls Health System offers the monthly grief support group Straight Talk for men who have experienced the loss of a spouse or significant other. The free support group meets from 6 to 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of every month. Meetings are held on second floor of the North Building at the main hospital campus, 1 Ingalls Drive in Harvey. Registration is required. Call Ingalls Hospice Bereavement Services at (708) 331-1360.

Lamaze and Delivery Express

Ingalls Memorial Hospital will offer a Lamaze & Delivery Express class from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. July 23 for the pregnant woman seeking information about labor and delivery but who has limited time or is unsure about taking a full Lamaze class. The program will feature videos covering pregnancy, warning signs, preterm labor, stages of labor and medical procedures such as induction of labor, monitoring, epidurals and Cesarean births. After each topic, there will be time for discussion. The instructor also will cover simple breathing and relaxation techniques. Women who attend and decide to enroll in the full Lamaze program at Ingalls will receive a $5-off coupon for that program.

Lamaze/Saturday

Ingalls Memorial Hospital’s Lamaze Saturday childbirth class features a full day of learning about labor and delivery, including a presentation that covers the stages of labor, epidurals, and Cesarean section. Four-D ultrasound images show parents fetal development. Fun “Partner Tips” for dads and other support people, and “Take Note” segments help parents retain important information.

In addition, the “Understanding Comfort Techniques” segment gives parents practical hands-on training in labor support, breathing, relaxation, massage, labor and pushing positions, information on labor support doulas, along with the opportunity to view birth stories. 

This program is taught by a certified childbirth educator. Couples are asked to bring two pillows, a sheet or blanket from home and wear comfortable clothing suitable for sitting on the floor.

The next class is from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 26 in the Ingalls Professional Building, 71 W. 156th St., Lower Level Rooms 3 and 4, at the main hospital campus, 1 Ingalls Drive in Harvey. Fee is $50. For more information or to register, call Ingalls Women’s & Children’s Services at (708) 915-5334.

Maternity Suites Tours

Expectant parents are invited to tour the Maternity Suites of Ingalls Memorial Hospital, 1 Ingalls Drive, and see the advantages of delivering their baby in a state-of-the-art birthing suite. Labor, delivery, recovery, and post-partum care all occur in the same room, allowing new parents to fully enjoy those first moments with their new baby.

The Maternity Suites Tour includes information about Ingalls admission procedures, including pre-admission forms and V.I.P. valet parking passes, how to select a pediatrician, the role of doulas and more.

The free tours are offered from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays. The next session is scheduled for July 23.
