CALUMET CITY | Mayor Michelle Markiewicz Qualkinbush recently signed the Buddy Poppy proclamation at City Hall with the Ehinger Bros. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8141 Buddy Poppy king and queen.

Queen Veronica Simkus is the granddaughter of Post and auxiliary members Wally and Kathy Simku. King Paul Buck  is the son of Auxiliary member Sarah Buck and grandson of Auxiliary President Jane Malone.

A very successful poppy drive took place, $3,500 was raised with all proceeds being put in a restricted fund which will be used for hospitalized veterans and other veteran needs. Hospitalized veterans make the poppies and are paid for their labor.

Look for the Buddy Poppy king and queen in the Calumet City Labor Day parade.
