CALUMET CITY| U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly on Friday delivered nearly 50 books to Creative Communications Academy in Calumet City as part of the Library of Congress Surplus Book Program.

“Reading stirs the imagination of young people, exposes them to new ideas and transports them to new worlds,” Kelly said. “I was pleased to see that the students were very enthusiastic about the donation.”

The donated books ranged from novels to textbooks and nonfiction.

The Library of Congress routinely donates extra copies or surplus books to schools and nonprofits through members of Congress. Kelly, D-Matteson, recently contacted schools across the 2nd Congressional District to introduce the program.

Several schools replied and they soon will receive age-appropriate books directly from the Library of Congress, Kelly said.
