CHICAGO HEIGHTS | The Prairie State College seventh annual Pioneers Cross Country 5K Run/3K Walk will take place Saturday at the Pioneer Recreation and Sports Park, at 100 197th Place.

The 5K (3.1 mile) run is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. and the 3K walk (1.8 miles) will begin at 9:35 a.m. Advance registration fees for the event are $20 for 5K runners ($18 with PSC student ID)and $12 for the 3K walk. Advance registration is open until Friday. All 5K participants who register on the day of the event will pay $25 ($22 with a PSC student ID). All 3K walkers registering on the day of the event will be charged $15. Race day registration will take place from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday. To avoid long lines the day of the event, fees can be paid in advance at the PSC Athletic Complex located in the Field House.

There are seven age groups for both women and men in the 5K run, with medals for the first-place male and female finishers in each classification. All male and female second- and third-place finishers in each class will receive a certificate. All 3K walkers will receive a participation certificate.

All participants will receive a goody bag, food, and beverage at the finish line as well as a a raffle entry for the opportunity to win running gear or other assorted gifts. Water stations will be near the start and midpoint of the course. There also will be water and medical personnel available in the finish line area. Anyone with special needs may contact the PSC staff upon registration so necessary arrangements can be made.
