CHICAGO HEIGHTS | Bloom Township High School District 206 celebrated using alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles, promoting clean technology, and reducing the nation’s energy dependence during its National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey event.

Held on Oct. 18, Bloom High School district’s Odyssey was one of more than 160 events held across the United States and internationally in Paris and Gothenburg, Sweden, to promote the use of and raise awareness about alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles.

“We were very excited to be a part of Odyssey 2012,” said Barry Latham, physics/chemistry instructor. “Our event gave us an opportunity to share valuable information with the public about alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles. We helped Odyssey in its goal to spread the message of embracing these new technologies.”

National Alternative Fuel Vehicles Day Odyssey is a biennial event coordinated and created by the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium at West Virginia University. This year was the 10-year anniversary of the event; the 2012 theme was “Driving Change Across America.”

Odyssey is comprised of numerous green transportation related events coordinated and hosted by NAFTC members, Clean Cities coalitions, and others who believe in cleaner, more energy efficient forms of transportation. The goals for the 2012 events were to attract more than 250,000 attendees at 150 sites across the country and to reach more than 100 million people through media coverage and Internet.

Odyssey 2012 was sponsored nationally by Honda and Toyota. AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps and West Virginia University were national partners of the event.
