CHICAGO HEIGHTS | A 29-year-old man died Tuesday after he was found with severe head wounds early Monday in Chicago Heights, authorities said.

Salvador Rodriguez, of Chicago Heights, was pronounced dead at 2:17 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, the Cook County medical examiner's office said. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

Emergency responders found Rodriguez about 5:45 a.m. Monday after arriving in the 1900 block of Circle Court for a report of a battery victim, police said. Rodriguez was wounded and lying on the ground, police said.

Rodriguez was taken to Franciscan St. James Health and later rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center for surgery, police said.

Police are conducting interviews, but they have no suspects.

The Chicago Heights Police Department Detective Division is working with the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force because of the serious nature of the battery, police said.
