H-F High School receives innovation grant
FLOSSMOOR | On Jan. 31, Homewood-Flossmoor High School District 233 was awarded a $5,000 grant from the Illinois Innovation Talent program.
In this program, interdisciplinary teams of students collaborate on real-world problem-based learning challenges designed to improve student achievement and increase college and career readiness.
Homewood-Flossmoor's challenge partner is the Illinois Department of Transportation. Students in the school's engineering physics classes will work with IDOT to create innovative designs for future freeway interchanges to address the recommendations by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The civil engineering society has recommended that IDOT implement strategies to decrease highway congestion, to relieve the congestion costs for travelers and to aid economic development in Illinois.
"The Illinois Innovation Talent Program is a great opportunity for our students to see how the content they are learning in the classroom applies to real-world problems," says Von Mansfield, superintendent.
