CHICAGO HEIGHTS | Police have one person in custody after a Chicago Heights man was gunned down in a gas station parking lot Tuesday, officials said.

Robert Fortson died about 11 a.m. after being shot several times at the Mobile station at 431 W. 14th St., according to a Chicago Heights police news release.

Fortson, 40, was transported to Franciscan St. James Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, the release states.

Police responding to the shooting located a suspect and took him into custody, officials said. Chicago Heights police are investigating.

Charges against the man were pending Tuesday night, Sgt. Joe Bruni said.
