CHICAGO HEIGHTS | Marian Catholic High School’s Concert Band was named the Honor Band, the top award, at the SuperState Band Contest on May 3 at the University of Illinois.

The Concert Band at Marian Catholic has consistently earned superior ratings in Illinois High School Association Organizational Contests. The Marian Concert Band also placed first in its class at the state of Illinois Concert Band contest in every year attended and recently won the State of the Art Concert Band Contest.

“It was truly an honor to perform at the University of Illinois Superstate Concert Band competition,” said Bobby Lambert, assistant band director. “The students performed at their highest level both on and off the stage. Marian Catholic could not have been better represented, having two ensembles produce highly artistic, highly memorable performances for some of the best audiences in the state while at the same time setting a high standard of respect and decorum throughout the day.”

The Marian Band is a holder of three Illinois and four Chicago Heights honorary proclamations, including a joint Illinois House and Senate proclamation in 1990. The band is also twice entered in the United States Congressional record in congratulatory commendatory messages.
