CHICAGO HEIGHTS | State child welfare officials are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of a 2-month-old girl at her home Sunday.
Danae Billups, who lived on Union Avenue in Chicago Heights, was found unresponsive Sunday morning. She was transported to Franciscan St. James Health in Chicago Heights, where she was pronounced dead at 12:08 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Billups' body was examined Monday as part of an autopsy, but a cause of death has yet to be determined. Medical examiner officials said a cause was “pending further study,” but could not say how long it would take.
A spokesman for the Department of Children and Family Services said it is investigating allegations of neglect against the child's mother. Spokesman Jimmie Whitelow said the department has not had prior contact with the family.
