CHICAGO HEIGHTS | Mayor David Gonzalez announced the promotions of three long-standing Chicago Heights Fire Department personnel at this week's swearing-in ceremony.

Michael Vittori was promoted from lieutenant to captain,  Christopher Bednarek from engineer to lieutenant and Wendell W. Thomas from paramedic/firefighter to engineer.

They have a combined total of more than 54 years of firefighting, fire prevention and EMT experience serving and protecting the city, a news release states.

“In an emergency, when seconds count and lives are at stake, I am grateful to these first-responders for their individual dedication and commitment to serving," Gonzalez told a crowd in council chambers. "Together, the passion and enthusiasm they bring to work every day reinforces the strength of our Fire Department and the integrity of our city.”

The Chicago Heights Fire and Police Board confirmed the promotions which were recommended by Fire Chief James Angell.
