CHICAGO HEIGHTS | The Prairie State College speech team received fifth place of 15 teams and brought home several individual awards from an Oct. 13 tournament hosted by Moraine Valley Community College.

Nick Williams, of Homewood, received second place for program oral interpretation and second place for speech to entertain. Sarah Hill, of Harvey, received third place for speech to entertain, and Elizabeth Rossi, of Crete, received sixth place for informative speaking. Matt Jiles, of Flossmoor, received fifth place for impromptu speaking, and Marilyn Foster, of Olympia Fields, received sixth place for persuasive speaking. Also competing were Dejoie Simmons, of Country Club Hills;, Jon Veal, of Homewood; Kimberly Fox, of Matteson, and Jasmine Ross, of Richton Park. The team is coached by PSC professors Ed Schwarz, David Naze and Elighie Wilson.

“The key to this tournament was focusing on taking it only 10 minutes at a time,” said team member Fox.

“This is a great way to begin the season," Naze said. "We have a lot of new team members this year, so it’s wonderful to see them prepare themselves for a successful start to the new year.”
