On Tuesday, officials working at a polling place at the American Legion hall, 443 E. 157th St., South Holland, had to twice remove an individual who claimed he was at the polling place as a poll watcher.

Cook County clerk spokeswoman Courtney Greve said it was determined the person was not a valid poll watcher because he was an Indiana resident. The person tried returning after being ejected the first time. No charges were filed against the individual, whom Greve was unable to identify.

Two other polling places in the south suburbs experienced problems when heat gave out on a day when temperatures were close to freezing.

Greve said the clerk’s office was notified about 8:30 a.m. that polling places at the Martin Luther King Jr., Recreational Sports Center, 234 W. 150th St., in Harvey, and at Commissioner’s Park, 311 Chicago Road, in Chicago Heights, had lost heat. Portable heaters were sent to those polling places to help them get through the day.
