CHICAGO HEIGHTS | SouthSTAR Services' "Dare to Dream" program will be featured on ABC7 news between 11:30 a.m. and noon Thursday, the agency has announced.
The "Dare to Dream" program is part of the agency's orientation process for new clients.
"All their lives, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are often told what they can't do," said Leanne Roth, director of employment and advocacy. "Through SouthSTAR's 'Dare to Dream' program, we ask them to think about what they have always dreamed of doing, and then help them find ways to achieve those dreams."
The news story will include footage of a "Dare to Dream" class and an interview with Sean Jefferson, who always dreamed of becoming a member of a professional baseball team. Through the program, Jefferson began working for the Windy City Thunderbolts and after four years, he became a baseball MVP in September when they recognized him as their Employee of the Month.
SouthSTAR Services is a nonprofit serving more than 500 children and adults in the Chicago area and Northwest Indiana. It has offices in Schererville, Chicago Heights and Olympia Fields.
