CHICAGO HEIGHTS | Prairie State College recently held a special graduation ceremony for the Basic Firefighter program on the main campus of PSC, at 202 S. Halsted St.
Spring 2014 graduates of the program were Nicholas Boros and Brandon Krabbe. of Chicago Heights Fire Department; Sam Casella. of East Hazel Crest Fire Department; Justin Connor, Edward Peppler and Bryan Rietveld. of Crete Township Fire Protection District; Hector Frausto. of Burnham Fire Department; and Quentin Geralds, Kyle Jowers and Estaban Sanchez. of Park Forest Fire Department.
The master of ceremonies was Rich Atwood, program coordinator and an adjunct instructor at PSC, who also gave the keynote address and closing comments. The student speaker was Rietveld. The Rev. Bill Hall, Steger Fire Department chaplain, gave the invocation and closing prayer. Special remarks were made by Patty Zuccarello, dean, health and industrial technology at PSC. Bill Brei, a lieutenant with Park forest Fire Department, gave a special Power Point presentation and instructor recognition.
The Basic Firefighter program prepares students to become municipal firefighters and take the state fire marshal exam. The program follows the standards of the National Fire Protection Association and the Office of the State Fire Marshall.
